Detention stipulations

It is necessary to declare goods made of or containing animal products – e.g. items that are made from rawhide, such as shields, artefacts, drums and any treated skins, furs, hides, hairs or feathers.

If prohibited under international wildlife legislation, some items might require import permits. Permits are to be acquired prior to arriving in Australia.

In the absence of permits, your belongings may be seized. Do not rely on the assurances of third parties who may insist that permits are not required.
